Dayton Gems Preseason Training Camp Officially Gets Underway

October 10, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, officially opened up it's third preseason training camp on Monday morning when the team skated onto Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena.

With the team's first postseason appearance still fresh in memory, the Gems embark on the third training camp since the Gems returned to Dayton back in 2009. Open and free to the public to watch, the on-ice portion of the camp will feature drills and scrimmages from 10:00am through Noon on Monday, October 10 through Friday, October 14, and again from 10:00am to Noon on Monday, October 17 through Friday, October 21. All on-ice sessions will be held on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena. Fans wishing to watch camp can enter the Hara Arena main lobby entrance.

In addition to the morning skates, the team will also be hosting an intersquad scrimmage on Wednesday, October 12 from 4:30 to 5:30pm. Fans are invited to this open and free event.

This year's training camp will feature a pair of "home and home" preseason exhibition games against division rival Fort Wayne Komets, first at Hara Arena in Dayton on Friday, October 14 at 7pm, and then at Fort Wayne, Indiana on Sunday, October 16 at 5pm. Tickets for the lone Dayton preseason contest are available now by calling the Gems office at 275-7777 or by visiting www.DaytonGems.com.

Welcoming back a large core group of returning players, as well as introducing the new participants onto the ice for the 10:00am start was second year head coach Brian Gratz. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana and former professional netminder, Gratz led his Gems squad to the CHL playoffs for the first time in team history, while producing Dayton pro hockey's first winning season in five years during his 2010-2011 campaign behind the bench. This season, a training camp roster of just 26 potential Gems will be battling for one of the final 19 roster spots when the team begins regular season play against the Bloomington Blaze on October 22.

The Dayton Gems opening night is set for Saturday, November 5 at 7pm. Single Game Tickets are on sale now at the Hara Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. In addition, full season and mini pack ticket packages are still available starting at $27! Call the Gems at 275-7777 for more information and to order by phone.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Dayton Gems.
